Dear Reader

We're in and it feels as if we've been here forever

Main Content Inline Small

First of all thank you to everyone who took the time to send us messages of good luck on the impending move. It all went according to plan and our first week passed as if we'd always been here. Varney, the dog, has settled in just as well as the rest of the team.

We've also used this change to expand and many of you will already have had contact with our newest team member, Tessa. Tessa joins us on the operations side of the business, organising client tax and accounting documentation ready for preparation and also with credit control (so best to keep on her good side). She's also been oganising me - which could be one of her more challenging objectives.

One final point on the office move. We have a new telephone number and are now in the Abingdon dialing code. The new number is 01235 868888. The old number still works and diverts through to the office.

Could you claim tax credits?

It's a time of year when expenditure on presents and thoughts of tax bills in January start to loom large. Did you know that just because you run your own business does not mean you lose you entitlement to claim tax credits. We've come across many business owners who incorrectly thought that tax credits were only applicable to employees and not to business owners which isn't the case. Here's a link to a tool which can help you decide if you're entitled to claim tax credits.

Christmas Party Time - Can You Claim?

Main Content Inline Small

It's not all "bah humbug" at HMRC during the festive period. There are circumstances for achieving tax relief on providing a staff Christmas function, but there are rules. To qualify for tax and national insurance relief, the event must be annual (Christmas or summer barbeque), it must be open to all employees and the cost per head must be no more than £150. This £150 isn't an allowance and you need to consider the total cost per head including and drinks, taxis or overnight accommodation.
