Inheritance tax for couples

There have gradually been fewer and fewer tax reasons for getting or remaining married or being in a civil partnership but one area of note still stands out.

Spouses and Civil Partners (CPs) are able to transfer property between themselves at death (and also in their lifetimes) without any charge to inheritance tax. Any tax liability is only payable on the second death, based on the whole estate held by the survivor. Read more....
